About Noodleboot

Noodleboot is Jonathan Robinson's playground. It's where some of the things he loves collide: writing, designing, mark-up and coding.

And why call it noodleboot? Apple Macintosh built a fearsome brand name with no more than one food item and one article of clothing, so why fight it?

Xumo, IPTV Company

11/10 – 05/13: Lead User Interace Designer

The television user interface I designed was used by Panasonic to demonstrate their vision of the future of TV in their keynote presentation in the Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas 2013.

  • Working in a SCRUM environment, my team and I gathered requirements from the Product team to create wireframes which explained how the user would interact with the proposed service (on STB, PC, tablet and smart phone) using keyboard, mouse, touch-screen and remote control input.
  • Adobe Creative Suite was used to design the layout, look & feel and branding.
  • These designs were employed along with After Effects to create either a video demonstration of the UI in action, or an HTML/CSS3/Javascript mock up to trial user navigation and test usability.
  • The video or mock-ups were available to engineering and testing teams to help clarify expectations.
  • Created websites supporting the product as well as the Noodleboot website as a personal project.

Move Networks, IPTV Company

11/06 – 11/10: Lead User Interace Designer

Move used adaptive rate technology to deliver an IPTV service over the top of the Internet to provide a rich multimedia experience for consumers on their television, computer and mobile screens. I took full responsibility for creating UI designs for both the virtual and physical set top box, overseeing a small team to implement the designs.

  • Gathering requirements from the Product team, my team and I created wireframes to explain how the user would interact with the proposed service (on STB, PC, tablet and smart phone) using keyboard, mouse, touch-screen and remote control input.
  • Adobe Creative Suite was used to design the layout, look & feel and branding.
  • I converted approved designs into HTML templates styled with CSS. Alternate CSS was created for PAL, NTSC and widescreen resolutions.
  • If the device allowed, CSS3 transformations and animations were included to offer a richer user experience.
  • Co-ordinating with the engineering team, I reported any bugs to be fixed before the application is handed over into the formal testing phase.
